So I've started on the first hellcannon and have a couple of very early WIP shots just to show what the idea is with this first one. (My partner took the second photo and insisted I post it here. It's amazing the difference in colour the camera has made between two pictures taken in similar conditions just on a different desk!)
The two Hellcannons are going to be quite different. I want this one to have a more organic scheme and go for a more machine like scheme for the next one.
Still have a lot of work to do on this including making a base for it!
Here's a quick overview of my plan for the Tale of Fantasy Painters -
The List:
Characters:
Sorcerer 195
Sorcerer 170
Sorcerer 170
Core:
10 Warriors w/ Additional Hand Weapons 210
12 Warriors w/ Halberds 244
15 Marauderds 120
5 Marauder Horsemen 106
10 Warhounds 60
Special:
6 Chaos Knights 300
Rare:
Hellcannon 205
Hellcannon 205
Warshrine 140
Total Points: 2125
I know that's more than necessary but I think we all know that I probably won't get all of that painted as planned!
The Plan:
Roughly as follows.
Month 1 Hellcannon (205)
Month 2 Sorcerer (195) [400]
Month 3 10 Warriors w/ AHW (210) [610]
Month 4 Sorcerer & 5 Warhounds (200) [810]
Month 5 Hellcannon (205) [1015]
Month 6 Warshrine & 5 Warhounds (170) [1185]
Month 7 15 Marauders & 5 Marauder Horsemen (226) [1411]
Month 8 6 Chaos Knights (300) [1711]
Month 9 12 Warriors w/ Halberds (244) [1955]
Month 10 Sorcerer (170) [2125]

The Hellcannon is looking really good so far!
What's your thoughts behind those 10 Warriors with aditional Hand Weapons, though? Personally, I can't say I like the concept, but that might be mostly 'cos I think the other options -look so much cooler, heh.
Can't say I've tried it in battle though, but on the paper it looks like you'll get some very vulnerable Warriors, who'll be hard pressed to earn their points back, as other expensive units either have high toughnes and/or armour save, so your Warriors will be rather ineffective against all but cheap rank and file.. ?
But I don't know, as I've said, I've not tested it, nor have I tried any battle simulators or anything.
Do you have any experience, then please share *Smiles*
Well, the stock answer is Halberds to equip the Warriors. I always give that unit additional hand weapons and shields so I have the choice on how to use them but I find they're quite effective this way but consensus is Halberds is a more efficient choice. However, I've found that 9 times out of 10 the warriors have to receive the charge instead of getting to make it and having the extra attack per warrior left standing is invaluable and I've had the unit get combined front and rear charges and with the sheer number of attacks back win combats.
The best thing though is the models look awesome with two hand weapons!
